History of FW-FERNWÄRME-TECHNIK GmbH

From an engineering company to a system manufacturer

In 1978 the “Ingenieurbüro für Fernwärmetechnik – IBF” was founded in Isernhagen, followed by FW-FERNWÄRME-TECHNIK GmbH only two years later.

The money for this was raised by planning 72,000 metres of district heating pipelines in Saudi Arabia. During the first ten years of FW, the company rehabilitated defect district heating networks and pipelines due to the knowledge of a huge number of different district heating pipeline systems and insulating types. This was often done to extend the service life or ensure interruption-free operations.

At the same time, a new steel-cased pipe-in-pipe production plant was established in Isernhagen. However, the increasing number of orders made it necessary to expand the production and office capacities.

For the execution of a DM10 million order (we had to produce 56,000 X-ray proof welds) we rented a production site in Isernhagen HB. Two years later, we moved into a second building in Isernhagen-Kirchhorst where the company had its headquarters for fifteen years.

At the time of German reunification we bought two production plants from the Treuhand in Berlin and sufficient open space in Tschernitz near Cottbus to handle steel-cased pipe-in-pipe projects for the Eastern European market, including Russia.

When we won the “tunnel order” in 1990, all production units became once again too small. For the Eurotunnel, which is located between Britain and France, we prefabricated all pipe fittings for drainage pipes DN400 and fire mains DN250. For this, we found a suitable production plant in Celle.
There, we expanded due to additional orders and bought land from our neighbour to build new facilities. We operate steel-cased pipe-in-pipe production on a surface of approx. 18,000 sqm and in several production plants which is absolutely competitive.

While doubling the production surface in 2010, we have also built a new training workshop. There, we can simultaneously train twelve apprentices either as “high-pressure pipe fitters” or as “plant fitters”.
